Cell Wall-Bound Phenolics from Norway Spruce (Picea abies) Needles

چکیده
Secondary products, such as phenolics, accumulate predominantly in the form of hydrophilic conjugates in the vacuoles (intraprotoplasmic storage) of plants [1—3]. Also there are many reports on their extraprotoplasmic location, e.g. as exudates [4] or cell wall components. The latter include the polymer lignin [5], as well as monomeric hydrolyzable phenolics, which are mainly hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs; ferulic, diferulic, andp-coumaric acids) linked to polysaccharides [6—11] and/or lignin [12—14], In contrast, the most widespread flavonoids have rarely been found to be associated with cell walls. Markham [15] isolated a flavone polysaccharide from Monoclea forsten which was possibly cell wall bound, while Ibrahim et al. [16] showed, with the aid of immunological methods, that a methylated flavonol glycoside was probably located in the cell walls of Chrysosplenium americanum. In the course of an investigation of the phenolics in Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] KARST.) needles we observed both HCAand flavonoid-like insoluble hydrolyzable compounds. We report here their identification and localization and present evidence for cell wall-bound astragalin (kaempferol 3-O-ß-

Histochemical and biochemical approaches to the study of phenolic compounds and peroxidases in needles of Norway spruce (Picea abies)
The three youngest age-classes of needles of Norway spruce (Picea abies) were collected from four sites in the Krusne Hory Mountains (Czech Republic) characterized by different levels of damage caused by environmental pollution. Histochemical methods did not reveal any differences in localization of phenolics among the needles. Mesophyll cells close to the epidermis of needles and cells around ...

Apoplastic, cytoplasmic, ionically and covalently bound isoperoxidases were investigated from needles o f Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and a pronounced genetic variability o f the isoenzyme pattern was found. The enzymatic activity o f each group o f isoperoxidases was determined between November 1989 to November 1990 from needles o f three locations (Velmerstot, Glindfeld, Haltern) ...

The correlation between the peroxidase activity, chlorophyll and soluble protein content as well as the changes in vascular bundle structure in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) needles affected by cement dust were studied. In spite of the absence of any yellowing symptoms, a significantly lower chlorophyll con tent was measured in spruce needles affected by cement dust. Observed sieve cel...
متن کاملOn the ecology of Lophodermium piceae, a needle endophyte of Norway spruce
The significance of endophytic needle infections to Norway spruce is still largely unsolved. Lophodermium piceae is the most common species representing typically over 90 % of the cultivable isolates obtained from surface sterilized needles. Generally, more than 50 % of the needles are infected with this species and single healthy looking needles can accommodate several, even more than 30 indiv...
